Hello Galileo!

My name is Amber Sawaya and I’m applying for your Head of Design position — I first worked for Galileo in 2006 and here is my story:

Video Transcript: Hi Galileo! My name is Amber Sawaya, and I’m applying for your Head of Design position. This is a full-circle moment for me because I was your creative director from 2006 to 2008, and I was awarded the Outstanding Contributor award, along with my development partner, Mica Carey, who went on to work at eBay, Amazon, and Microsoft. The creative team I installed in 2007 was with you up until your acquisition by SoFi in 2020.

Since my time at Galileo, I’ve built and mentored several creative teams. I’ve done a lot in the design space, garnering awards such as the Utah Business 40 Under 40, and numerous design awards. I’ve also authored a few patents.

One of my patents is for a physical UI system. You can see that project here under UX for Wall-Mounted Control Panels. Another patent is for Shoreline Health, for which I helped architect the system, and I’m showcasing it here alongside my other design systems.

After leaving Galileo, I started a web design company that became a UX company and wrote a bestselling book.

From there, I became EVP of UX and Product at a startup in the San Francisco Bay area called Zorroa. We used convolutional neural networks back then to intelligently search massive image and media databases.

Our clients were the Disney Animation Research Library, Sony, Laika, and Iron Mountain. This work is under UX for AI Visual Search

After that, I started a UX firm called Anchor & Alpine that I ran for four years before joining Osmos as their Head of Design. Osmos is an AI-driven ETL company. That’s the work here for UX for AI Data Transformation.

I’m located in Salt Lake City, close to your Sandy office, although I do prefer to work from home if possible, because I have a minor hearing disability. My brother-in-law, Shane Head, still works for Galileo, and I’ve stayed connected with several of my FinTech partners. I still help Phil Philliou pitch FinTech business!

I’m very excited to hear what has happened with Galileo in the last 17 years, and to catch you up a little bit on what I’ve been doing and to hear a little bit more about the role. So I look forward to talking with you. Please take a minute to look around my portfolio, take a look at my CV, and hopefully we’ll get to chat soon.

Thank you.
